Epilepsy

Together we stand against epilepsy

Epilepsy extends beyond seizures – for those affected, it touches every part of life, from independence and mental wellbeing to social interactions and daily routines. We aim to listen and learn from the authentic experiences of those living with epilepsy and work to deliver tools and support that make a meaningful difference.

Epilepsy is a chronic, non-communicable disease of the brain and is characterised by two or more unprovoked seizures.1 Anyone can develop epilepsy at any age and at any time in life.1

Epilepsy is one of the world’s oldest recognised conditions.1 Fear, misunderstanding, discrimination, and social stigma have long surrounded epilepsy and persist in many countries today, affecting the quality of life for those living with it and their families.1

Globally, epilepsy is one of the most common neurological disorders, with an estimated 50 million people living with the condition.1
Approximately 6 million people are living with epilepsy in Europe.2

Epilepsy is a complex and often misunderstood neurological condition.1 At Eisai, we use our extensive heritage and passion in neurology to help people with epilepsy live life to the full.

Through innovation and partnerships, we aim to support solutions for a better future, as part of our pursuit for better brain health for all.

40 years in neurology

We have over 40 years of experience in neurology, with epilepsy at the core of our work. During this time, we have developed a deep understanding of the disease's underlying mechanisms, as well as the lives of those living with the condition and their daily realities. Our efforts over the past four decades have allowed us to conduct extensive research into various seizure types and, consequently, numerous treatment options.

Innovation that goes beyond treatment options

Epilepsy does not just affect the brain – it impacts lives.1 That’s why, through collaboration with our partners as part of our broader hhceco (human health care ecosystem), we invest our resources and time into co-creating solutions, tools, technologies and education for healthcare professional and patients that reflect real-life needs.

A human health care (hhc) approach to neurology

At Eisai, we prioritise patients and their families through our focus on continually improving the benefits that healthcare can provide.

We call this human health care, or hhc. We strive to understand life from the patient’s perspective and work together to fulfil the unmet medical needs faced by patients, their families and the healthcare professionals who treat them.
